Learning and Tekken
Learning. when i was playing UMVC3 , learning was my life raft. then i went out into games that i supposedly know how to play and i stopped trying to really learn. i did what was natural….and i feel i lost alot of humility because of it. i need to really humble myself and hit the books and forums and learn again..winning a few games on line dosent mean anything if you dont truly know the game. i need to get back to learning.
I went back to playing tekken today for the first time in 3 years and i dont know how i went so long without it. First of all, i played tekken with an arcade stick for the first time ever and that was just amazing. i felt like i have been doing it wrong my whole life. the combos are easier to pull off and the timing on the juggles just feels effortless. I went on line and did really well too and then i said.. i wish this game was in evo 2012…but its not.
There is no tekken at this year’s evo outside of Street fighter X Tekken. As good as i am at tekken i really dont feel like it is going to help me in that game. i havent played it yet but the main reason i say this is because..its a 2d fighting game. Yes, they said initially that if you were skilled in tekken then you would feel right at home using tekken characters in the game. but i watched Cross assault episode one and i saw a top tekken player get beat pretty bad. its not because he cant play tekken but because he wasnt using the proper anti air ( in my humble opinion ). but how would he really know that since THERE IS NO ANTI AIR IN TEKKEN!! at least not to the degree of street fighter. In tekken, most characters can only jump just barely above what is humanly possible so there is no need to really worry about people sailing over you for cross ups.
I am no fighting game expert..obviously. I grew up playing tekken because i just fell in love with the characters , the story and the game when i saw it in the arcade as a child. I played streetfighter because my friends did and i love fighting games so even though i was more into fatal fury.. i got into it. now that being said, i have a good amount of friends that can beat me at street fighter but not tekken. this game Streetfighter X Tekken is a chance for us to really see who is better( just like that gift from the heavens Snk VS Capcom 2). but i still think it is going to lean more into the favor of those who play streetfighter.
I am looking forward to the game an i am still going to do everything i can to get better at fighting games so that i can compete in the big tournaments and win. I have every fighting game that is going to be at evo this year and now that i just finished a big project at work over the weekend so i am going to dive into these games and learn as much as possible.
Yeah , I went and got it. I have the collectors edition game so.. Why not go all the way. I must read and absorb this. All your base are belong to me !!!!
I created a few chars. This is my first, Taki. My favorite character in the series. I understand why she is not in the game but I don’t see the sense in applying reality to the series at this point.. But whatever , you can make Taki and give her natsu’s move set.
I’m a little upset but the commands for the Tekken characters. I expected more of a button based command system.
SCV has 3 attack buttons and they managed to put Devil Jin in there and make him feel like his tekken incarnation. I was hoping that this game would do the same so that I would feel as if my Tekken experience would be a big help in the game. But I guess they can’t please everyone and the game is not out yet. Maybe this is just 1 move set type : )
This Is another good Guide To King of Fighters. but some of it goes well with a lot of other fighting games.
A Cool Little Video To get started in King Of Fighters XIII. It May Be too Basic for most people but remember, “he who seeks knowledge begins with humbleness”
New Beginings,Old Friends.
Well the new month has started and i am saying goodbye to UMVC3.
After hours of reading, watching, listening and learning…oh and also playing. I have finally gotten good enough at UMVC3 to start winning matches consistently online. but it is a struggle. i have never been good at MVC games for some reason. but today i put that all behind me and Returned to the world of King Of Fighters XIII.
I grew up playing 3d fighting games for the most part but one series that i aboslutely loved was Fatal Fury. that is part of the reason that I loved Snk VS Capcom much. It was one game with almost all of my favorite 2d Fighting game characters.
I really appreciated all of the hard work that i put into UMVC3, but it was all a struggle. even if i won a game hands down and destroyed my opponent… I was still struggling. none of it felt natural. but now im back to KOF and ooohhh it does feel good to be back. I dont plan on competing in this game in EVO, but i am going to spend this month studying it and also Super Street fighter 4 A.E and Soul Calibur 5.
I am playing these 2d Games in preperation for Street Fighter X Tekken and after struggling so hard to get better at UMVC3 , it feels good to be able to win without all that effort. But if there is one thing that i learned from that game..besides humility, it is that you will get out what you put in. Meaning that the reason i got better was because i tried hard. the reason i probably never got seriously good before is because i have never tried this hard to get good. In tekken i was ranked in the top 1000 in the world online but…at that time i was eating, sleeping and breathing tekken. i was between jobs and tekken was my escape.
So far i have learned a great deal and lost many matches, I have been praised and cursed online but it was all for the love of fighting games. a part of my life that for some reason i never highlighted and gave proper respect, although i spent most of my child hood playing Fighting games and RPGs. I know i still have a long way to go and if i want to get better well….i have to make that push
PS - i started learning to play the piano again..for some reason, i thought that would help : )
I came across this yesterday , it has three parts , it’s pretty basic but it really highlights some of the finer points of the game. Enjoy!!
